Whole or standard husk
The husk is the material most buyers associate with the classic psyllium fibre trade. It is usually supplied in a relatively coarse physical form and selected for hydration and fibre functionality.
Milled psyllium powder
Powder is produced by further milling the husk. It can suit applications where finer dispersion or different handling properties are needed, but it should not be assumed to have the same behaviour as standard husk.
Why form changes the specification
Particle size can affect dispersion, flow, bulk density, hydration kinetics and the way the ingredient is incorporated into a formulation. The RFQ should therefore state the form and mesh, not only the word “psyllium”.
How to approve a sample
Ask the supplier to label the sample with material form, grade and specification. Test it using the same formulation or laboratory method that will be used for the commercial lot whenever possible.
